What is Dry Eye Disease?
Dry Eye Disease occurs when the delicate balance of the tear film is disrupted. Because many different factors can affect tear quality and production, dry eye is a very common condition. While it is chronic and cannot be cured, symptoms can be significantly improved with proper diagnosis and ongoing management.

What Is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
Why Do We Use IPL for Dry Eyes?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy uses a broad spectrum of light to treat vascular and pigmented skin concerns. Unlike traditional lasers that emit a single wavelength, IPL targets multiple conditions at once.
Many patients with dry eye disease also experience facial inflammation, often related to rosacea. IPL helps reduce this inflammation, which in turn improves meibomian gland function and relieves dry eye symptoms.
Because IPL can increase sun sensitivity, a high-SPF sunscreen must be used before and after treatment. IPL is not suitable for all skin types, so a consultation and skin assessment are completed prior to treatment.
In addition to dry eye relief, IPL is popular for its cosmetic benefits. Often referred to as a “photofacial,” it can improve skin tone and texture, reduce acne, and minimize the appearance of sun damage, redness, freckles, and age spots.

What Is Radiofrequency (RF)?
Why Do We Use RF for Dry Eyes?
Radiofrequency (RF) therapy delivers controlled heat to the skin and underlying meibomian glands. By maintaining temperatures between 41–43°C, RF melts hardened oils within blocked glands, allowing them to function more effectively.
This treatment is more precise and effective than traditional warm compresses because RF heats the glands from the inside out.
Blocked meibomian glands can lead to styes, inflammation, blepharitis, chalazions, and Demodex overgrowth. If left untreated, gland damage and atrophy can occur, which is irreversible.
RF is a safe, minimally invasive, and comfortable procedure suitable for nearly all skin types and tones. It also offers cosmetic benefits by stimulating collagen and elastin production, helping to tighten and rejuvenate the skin.
At LEC, we use InMode’s Forma technology for Radiofrequency treatments.
