Eye See Eye Learn

The Eye See Eye Learn initiative originated at our sister office Lendrum Eye Centre under the guidance of Dr. Dorrie Morrow. This program caters to Kindergarten students across Alberta. Participating youngsters undergo a thorough eye examination, fully covered by Alberta Health Care, and are entitled to a complimentary pair of glasses backed by a one-year manufacturer’s warranty.

About This Program

Alberta Health Care extends coverage for children’s eye exams until they reach 19 years old, with the recommended age for their first examination being at 6 months.

Interesting Facts:
  • Having 20/20 vision doesn’t equate to flawless eyesight.
  • The term 20/20 denotes what one can see at a distance of 20 feet.
  • Approximately 25% of school-aged children experience vision issues.
  • Up to 60% of children with learning challenges encounter undiagnosed vision problems.
  • Traditional school tests may fail to identify these vision impairments.
  • A child’s initial eye assessment should occur before their first birthday, followed by subsequent exams at the ages of 3, upon entering kindergarten, and annually thereafter.
